List Of Changes to Companies/Securities/Stocks
That Make
The Dow Jones Industrial Average Index

The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DOW or DJIA) is a stock market index and, as I recall, what it contains is determined by the chief editor of the Wall Street Journal, and was created by the Dow Jones & Company co-founder Charles Dow.   The index follows 30 companies; most of the time.  This is a weighted index; meaning different weights are assigned to companies within the index as the index operator feels fit.  As a result, the impact on the index by each company's stock varies for a single dollar movement.

Dow Jones Industrial Average gets changes on occasion. Companies are removed and others added.  Below is a list of these changes in chronological order.  Typical reasons for changes are acquisitions, or trying to keep the index up with the times as companies grow, shrink, split off other companies, or fail to perform.

When changes are done on the DOW they are done in a way to not cause immediate disruption, meaning no sudden change of the DOW value, but there is a major impact to the behavior of the index as a result.  We quote, "The changes won’t cause any disruption in the level of the Index. The divisor used to calculate the DJIA from its components’ prices on their respective home exchanges will be changed prior to the opening".  "This procedure prevents any distortion in the DJIA’s reflection of the U.S. stock market."

This site and it's list get updated as changes occur, so add it to your Internet browser Favorites or Bookmarks to check back for updates as they occur.
